Press release: Lifting the veil of intellectual property
In close collaboration Deloitte Luxembourg and OFFICE FREYLINGER have published a new Intellectual Property (IP) book: ‘La propriété intellectuelle à Luxembourg - Vademecum pratique’, which was launched during a matinee held on 15 December 2010, in the presence of Jeannot Krecké, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade.
The minister opened the matinee, followed by presentations of Bernard David, Partner at Deloitte Luxembourg, Pierre Kihn, CEO and Olivier Laidebeur, Head of Trademark Department of OFFICE FREYLINGER.
According to Bernard David: “Intellectual property has become a strategic asset in today’s world, and often represents an important part of the sustainability and development of an organisation. Our vademecum, prepared by Office Freylinger and Deloitte Luxembourg is meant to become the reference for clarifying various points of patenting regulations.”
The book presents the Luxembourg legislation concerning intellectual property in a clear and transparent way:
• Technical innovation protected through patents
• Names, logos and other distinctive signs protected by trademarks
• Appearance of products and designs
• Computer software
• Accounting and taxation on these rights
The purpose of this Vademecum is to analyse various rights of eligible intellectual property. Best practices to be implemented by companies or governments are then presented in order to integrate them in decision-making and project management. An entire chapter is devoted to practical situations, such as launching a new product, modification of an existing patent, or software development.
Pierre Kihn further adds: “People often do not think of all the various aspects which need to be considered when initiating a patent process. Each patent is unique and needs to ensure a full protection of the intellectual property.”
“Every organisation creates intellectual property, often without noticing.” concludes Olivier Laidebeur, “In today’s economic world of services and knowledge, it is essential to protect this knowledge and development.”
The new book ‘La propriété intellectuelle à Luxembourg - Vademecum pratique', comprises of 174 pages (format 16 x 24 cm, ISBN 978-2-87974-106-2). It is priced at €65.- and is available in all specialised bookstores and directly from the publisher: Editions Promoculture, bp 1142, L-1011 Luxembourg City.
